Statistics have indicated that Japan imported 13,430tns of stainless steel products in January 2010, surging by 30.1% from last month, and increasing by about 20% compared with that of January of 2009.

Oglethorpe Power Corp. will construct a new 605MW, natural-gas-powered "combined-cycle" generating facility in Georgia to help meet the growing energy needs of its members. The corporation recently received final approval from its member EMCs to proceed with the project.

CRU has predicted that nickel production may fall behind demand this year for the first time in four years on increased usage by the stainless steel industry, the biggest user of the metal. Mr Maartje Collignon, a CRU analyst, said that the nickel deficit may be 20,000tns in 2010 after a surplus of 45,000tns in 2009.

China Nuclear Industry Huaxing Construction Co. Ltd (CNHXCC) has signed the civil work contract with China Zhongyuan Engineering Corp. (CZEC) for the No. 3 and No. 4 units of Pakistan's Chashma Nuclear Power Plant (C3/C4 Project) in Beijing on 24 February 2010.

Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. has received a contract from Saudi Aramco to develop a basic engineering package for four sulfur recovery units, each with an expected production capacity of 1200tpd. This new, four-train sulfur plant will be part of the Wasit Gas Development Program in the Kingdom.
